On 24 February, the organisations Colombia Diversa and Diálogo Diverso presented the regional project "Protecting the rights of LGBTIQ+ people in situations of migration and forced displacement". This project is possible thanks to the support of IDRC (International Development Research Center of Canada), and includes 8 countries in the region: Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Peru.
Over the course of 3 years we will work in a regional and articulated way to strengthen inclusive governance and socio-economic, legal and political integration of LGBTIQ+ people in situations of human mobility or forced displacement in Latin America. From a model based on research, empowerment and action, we will be able to establish data and evidence systems on violations of the rights of migrant LGBTIQ+ people, with an emphasis on violent deaths and forced disappearances.
Through this alliance we hope to promote research on the socio-economic, political and legal situation of LGBTIQ+ people in situations of migration and displacement; contribute to the enforceability, defence and promotion of their rights; influence state public policies through evidence-based information; and work together with other civil society organisations to achieve full citizenship.
