1.Purpose:
For 20 years, Colombia Diversa has documented violence against LGBTIQ+ people, focusing on homicides, murders and police violence that violates their fundamental rights. Throughout this work, the organisation has gathered key information on the cities with the most reported cases, the modalities of violence and the most vulnerable groups within the LGBTIQ+ population.
In addition to documentation, Colombia Diversa's cultural commitment includes the construction of memory as a way of challenging the narrative that has historically denied the dignity of LGBTIQ+ lives, as it has been said that their lives do not deserve to be mourned. Hence, naming and remembering them breaks that narrative.
From this commitment is born Celestea digital repository that collects stories of murdered LGBTIQ+ people and remembers the victims from the voices of their families, friends and loved ones. The web portal is composed of 14 constellations, each with between 9 and 10 stories. The choice of the sky and its stars as a narrative concept seeks to create a symbolic space of memory and resistance, where each story persists and reminds us of the urgency of justice and dignity.
This year, at Colombia Diversa we intend to take Celeste outside the digital environment through a travelling exhibition that captures its narrative essence and some of its stories. The organisation seeks to create a autonomous experience e interactivedesigned especially for young audiences and university students, to enable them to understand the violence faced by LGBTIQ+ people.
