1. Background
Colombia Diversa is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of the human and legal rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Colombia. Since its creation in 2004, Colombia Diversa has stood out as a pioneering organisation in the defence of the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community in Colombia, achieving impacts that have spread to other Latin American countries.
The organisation works tirelessly to support people who face discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, with the goal of building a society where all people can live free from prejudice. Its strategic litigation actions have achieved key legal victories, significantly expanding rights and protections for the LGBTQI+ community. Through its advocacy work, Colombia Diversa has pushed for important policy changes at the highest levels of government and has been recognised both nationally and regionally as an authority on LGBTQI+ rights.
2. About the position
Colombia Diversa is looking for an Accountant to support the Grants Manager in the accounting management of a USAID-funded project. This person will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the donor's and the organization's accounting regulations, as well as providing technical support to partner organizations on financial and accounting issues.
This position is key to ensure transparent, efficient and aligned management with the policies of Colombia Diversa and USAID, contributing to the strengthening of the financial and accounting capacities of the team and its partners.
3. Main Roles and Responsibilities
Project Accounting Management:
- Carry out the accounting of the project in accordance with Colombia Diversa's accounting policies,
Colombian regulations and specific USAID requirements.
- Carry out a physical review of the accounting documents with their respective supports.
- Prepare annual magnetic media (common utility) for submission to DIAN.
- Ensure the correct classification, recording and reconciliation of project expenditure in the HELISA accounting system.
- Settle project taxes.
- Prepare periodic financial reports for USAID and the Grants Manager.
- To manage the budget execution of the project together with the administrative professional and the project grant manager.
- Monitor and audit supporting documentation of expenditures, ensuring compliance with donor policies.
- Carrying out cash flows.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliation of the project's dedicated accounts (in US dollars and Colombian pesos).
- Prepare the reports to the Dian and the Banco de la República of the clearing account in dollars abroad, in accordance with current tax and exchange regulations.
- Organise the monthly physical accounting file of the project.
- Other activities as assigned by the Grants Manager and the USAID Project Director in the performance of professional services rendered.
- Accounting reconciliation of project income and expenditure.
Support to Partner Organisations:
- Provide financial and accounting training to project partners, focusing on accountability, record keeping, and compliance with donor regulations.
- Review and accompany partner organisations in the preparation of their reports.

Policy and Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that accounting and financial activities are aligned with Colombia Diversa policies and specific USAID regulations.
- Keep up to date on changes in USAID accounting and financial regulations, as well as Colombian fiscal and tax laws.
4. Requirements
Academic Background:
- Professional degree in Public Accounting.
- Current registration with the Central Board of Accountants.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in accounting and financial management for
Non-profit organisations.
- Proven experience in accounting management of USAID-funded projects (essential) and cost centres.
- Have knowledge of accounting and budgetary management of international cooperation projects.
Specific Skills and Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge of the HELISA accounting system (indispensable).
- Mastery of Colombian accounting, tax and exchange regulations.
- Knowledge of USAID financial and accounting policies.
- Experience in training and financial and accounting support to third parties, preferably non-profit organisations.
- High level of English (desirable).
Personal Competences:
- Identification with the values and mission of Colombia Diversa, particularly in the promotion and defence of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.
- Effective communication and numerical skills and teamwork.
- Commitment to ethics, transparency and accountability.
