In case you have been or are being a victim of domestic violence we recommend you:
- Go to the Family Police Station in the locality or municipality where you live and request an immediate protection measure to stop the violence, abuse or aggression. Or to prevent it when it is imminent.
Please note that the request for a protective measure must be filed no later than 30 days after the assault.
- Report violence committed against you by your partner or a member of your family to the public prosecutor's office. In this case, it does not matter if more than 30 days have passed since the assault, the criminal complaint can be filed even after several years have passed. The difficulty is that the more time has passed, the more difficult it is to prove that a crime has been committed against you.
Note: Domestic violence is a crime considered by our legislation as particularly serious, so that once the complaint has been filed, whether you like it or not, the Public Prosecutor's Office is obliged to continue with the investigation and criminal proceedings.
