Aldebinebin Ramos had been a human rights defender for many years. He was murdered in his home on 06 February this year. 

Aldebinebin's work was fundamental in guaranteeing and protecting the rights of LGBTIQ+ people as one of the co-founders of the LGBTIQ+ Chaparral Diversa Association. Currently, he was part of the municipal roundtable of the PDET sub-region of Southern Tolima, which sought to guarantee the rural development of the different communities.

Aldinebin is the third person from the group of LGBTIQ+ people represented by Colombia Diversa who has passed away after the submission of his case to the SJP. He presented his case to the Jurisdiction in 2019 and since then had been waiting to participate, to be recognised and to receive reparation for the persecution he suffered because of his sexual orientation. He died waiting for accreditation in macro-case 11.

From Colombia Diversa, we express our solidarity with her family. We have no doubt that the consequences of her murder are devastating for the leadership project of which she was a part. It is necessary to remember once again that LGBTIQ+ lives matter in a society that claims to be truly democratic. That is why it is essential that the authorities carry out an investigation into the facts and guarantee conditions of safety for LGBTIQ+ people who assume leadership roles in the region. The Colombian state is still in debt to incorporate differential approaches based on gender identity and sexual orientation in measures aimed at preventing, protecting and guaranteeing the work of human rights defenders.

When an LGBTIQ+ person is killed, memory is our greatest act of resistance. That is why Colombia Diversa wants to draw attention to the history of LGBTIQ+ victims of the armed conflict in Tolima and to remember that for years the Association of which Aldinebin Ramos was a member, along with other activists, has worked on the construction of different strategies of memory and resistance. After a long road, this Association was recognised as a subject of collective reparation. So today it is a priority to continue guaranteeing reparation measures.
