Position: Peace and Transitional Justice Advocate

Position. Lawyer in the Peace and Transitional Justice Area

Description. The person who performs the functions of this position will work under the Coordination of the Peace and Transitional Justice Area of Colombia Diversa or whoever the latter designates as supervisor of the contract and will be in charge of activities related to the promotion of access to transitional justice for victims of gender-based violence in the framework of the armed conflict.

Functions. The main functions include the following:

  • Accompany and represent victims of gender-based violence before the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in cases of gender-based violence.
  • Support the construction and execution of litigation strategies for the incorporation of the gender approach before the Special Jurisdiction for Peace.
  • Participate in the meetings established by the Peace and Transitional Justice Area team with the different bodies of the Integral Peace System.
  • Work in alliance with women's and feminist organisations and grassroots organisations to build strategies and produce documents.
  • Provide consultations and legal advice to victims of gender-based violence.
  • Draft documents for litigation and advocacy that are part of the objectives of the Peace and Transitional Justice Area.
  • Representing the organisation at events, roundtables and different scenarios of alliance work or national and international advocacy.
  • Prepare contract performance reports, submit accounts receivable and social security slips for the collection of fees.
  • Support follow-up, monitoring and reporting on Peace and Transitional Justice projects.
  • Complete the documentation requested by donors in support of the contract.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Coordination of the Peace and Transitional Justice Area or the Directorate of Colombia Diversa associated with the object of the present contract.

Type of recruitment. Contract for the provision of services.

Value. The contract will be worth approximately $6,000,000 per month.

Dedication. Approximately 40 hours per week are expected.

Requirements.

  • Undergraduate degree in law with a valid professional card.
  • Minimum two years' experience in representing and/or accompanying victims of gender-based violence, or four years' experience working in transitional justice.
  • The person is expected to have specific knowledge of the functioning of the Comprehensive Peace System and the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
  • Postgraduate studies related to gender, peacebuilding, international criminal law or transitional justice would be an asset.
  • Fluency in English is an asset.
