Equally fair is an initiative that brings together advocates, activists and organisations to make visible the experiences of LGBTIQ+ people in contexts of armed conflict. This launch marks the beginning of a collective process of memory, justice and reparation with a focus on gender and diversity.
The Sara Millerey Law is moving forward and we are there to support it.
We celebrate the approval in first debate of the Sara Millerey Law in Congress, a law that comprehensively addresses the needs and rights of trans people in the country. After being filed on 31 July 2024, with the joint work of more than 1,300 trans people from all regions, the law will now go to the second debate. This is a key step to insist that the reality of human rights should not only be on paper. Colombia Diversa looks forward to the progress of the Law in its next three debates.
INPEC Colombia makes progress on outstanding debts to Martha Álvarez:
As a result of years of struggle and denunciation by Marta Álvarez, and in compliance with the reparation measures pending before the IACHR by the Colombian State, INPEC launched the course that will train its officials on the rights of LGBTIQ+ persons deprived of their liberty. This event is another key step in the recognition of responsibility and the prevention of discrimination within prisons. We hope that the implementation of the course will succeed in protecting LGBTIQ+ persons, as well as demonstrating its successful implementation with clear evaluation and monitoring.
