Our Mission Statement

Colombia Diversa seeks to ensure inclusion, recognition and respect for the human rights of the LGBTIQ+ population in Colombia. human rights of the LGBTIQ+ population in Colombia.

Since 2004 we have been fighting for the rights of those who have been discriminated against for loving, being or appearing "different". In order to live in an equal society for all, we carry out strategic litigation, advocacy and research on the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Colombia.

Our Board of Directors is made up of leaders with backgrounds in human rights, economics, communications and politics. Each member brings their experience to guide our actions.

Marcela Sánchez Buitrago

Marcela Sánchez Buitrago is a social worker graduated from the National University of Colombia and holds a Master's degree in Peacebuilding from the University of the Andes. A feminist and human rights defender, she has dedicated her career to promoting social justice and equality. She serves as the director of Colombia Diversa, one of the most influential organisations in the defence of LGBTIQ+ rights in Colombia. Under her leadership, the organisation has strengthened its role as a national and international reference in the fight against discrimination through advocacy, research and strategic litigation.

Five Key Alliance

The Five Keys Alliance is made up of Colombia Diversa, Women's Link Worldwide, Corporación Humanas, the National Women's Network and Sisma Mujer. This Alliance was born from the negotiation of the Peace Accords in Havana, and aims to ensure that in the Colombian transitional justice context there is a differential treatment of sexual violence, reproductive violence and other crimes committed because of prejudice based on sexual orientation, gender expression and/or gender identity.

Network Without LGBTIQ+ Violence

The Red Sin Violencia LGBTIQ+ documents and analyses lethal violence due to prejudice in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the current context, producing data is a political act: we make visible what they want to erase, we demand justice and we strengthen democracy through citizen participation.

Gender Peace Group Alliance - GPAZ

The Alianza Grupo Género Paz - GPAZ is made up of the National Women's Network, Dejusticia, the Colombian Commission of Jurists, Sisma Mujer, Corporación Humanas, Women's Link Worldwide and Colombia Diversa. GPAZ is a group of organisations that has ensured that the gender approach is included and complied with in the Peace Agreement. We have been present from providing elements for the negotiations in Havana to monitoring and making recommendations for its implementation.

Alliance for the Litigation of Gender-Based Violence before the Special Jurisdiction for Peace

The JEP Alliance is made up of Corporación Humanas, Corporación Ocho de Marzo, Corporación Caribe Afirmativo, Red Nacional de Mujeres, Corporación Colectiva Justicia Mujer, Colombia Diversa and Women's Link Worldwide. Its objective is to work to guarantee the human rights of women and people with Diverse Sexual Orientation, Identity and Gender Expression (OSIEGD) who are victims of gender-based violence and violence due to prejudice committed as a result of or in connection with the armed conflict. In the framework of strategic litigation, the organisations that make up the Alliance share the interest of working together for truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition.
